Academic governance at HIMS College of Nursing is built around one goal: ensuring that every credit hour a student completes genuinely prepares them for professional nursing practice, not just for an examination.
How Our Academics Are Structured
- Programmes — BSN, Post RN BSN, and LHV Diploma, each mapped to PNMC and KMU requirements
- Faculty — the teaching staff responsible for delivering that curriculum
- Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) — the internal body that audits and improves academic quality
- Research — faculty and student research activity feeding back into practice
- Curriculum Committee — the body that reviews and updates course content
- Academic Calendar — semester structure, examination periods, and holidays
- Scholarships — financial support for deserving and talented students
Assessment Philosophy
HIMS assesses students across three dimensions that mirror real nursing practice: theoretical knowledge (written examinations), practical competence (skill lab and OSCE-style assessments), and clinical performance (supervised evaluation during placements at LRH and FCTH). A student who is strong on paper but weak at the bedside has not truly mastered the discipline — our assessment structure reflects that belief.
Academic Support
Students who are struggling academically are identified early through continuous assessment, and supported through faculty office hours, peer study groups, and the Self Learning Resource Centre (SLRC).
