Grievances Committee
Not every disagreement at a college is a disciplinary matter or a harassment complaint — some are simply disputes about fairness. The Grievances Committee exists to give students and staff at HIMS a structured, impartial channel to raise those concerns without fear of the process itself being unfair.
What the Committee Handles
- Academic disputes — grading disagreements, attendance calculation errors, examination irregularities
- Administrative issues — fee disputes, documentation delays, scheduling conflicts
- Concerns about the inconsistent or unfair application of college policy
- Clinical placement disputes that are not conduct-related (e.g. rotation scheduling fairness)
Process
- Raise the issue informally first, with the relevant faculty member, coordinator, or department
- If unresolved, submit a written complaint to the Grievances Committee describing the issue and any prior attempts to resolve it
- The committee reviews the matter, may request additional information from involved parties, and responds within a reasonable timeframe as set by institutional policy
The goal throughout is a resolution that is fair to the individual and consistent with how similar cases are handled across the institution.
