Clinical Teaching
Clinical teaching is where nursing theory becomes nursing practice, and at HIMS it is treated as the central pillar of the entire educational experience — not an add-on to classroom learning.
Our Clinical Placement Structure
Through formal MOUs with Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and Frontier Corps Teaching Hospital (FCTH), HIMS students rotate through supervised clinical placements across multiple departments, including:
- Medical and surgical wards
- Maternal and child health / obstetrics units
- Emergency and critical care settings
- Community and public health placements
How Supervision Works
- Each rotation is supervised jointly by HIMS clinical instructors and qualified hospital nursing staff
- Students are assessed on clinical performance — not just attendance — using structured evaluation forms
- Clinical performance is combined with theoretical coursework to determine overall progression
- Any conduct concerns during placement are handled jointly with hospital administration and the HIMS Proctorial Board
From Student to Employee
Because LRH and FCTH already know our students by the time they graduate — through months of supervised rotations — both hospitals offer HIMS graduates paid internship placements. Few nursing graduates in the region get to skip the uncertainty of applying cold to a hospital that has never seen their work; HIMS students don’t have to.
